Graffiti are mostly crafted and painted on sidewalk walls, public places and walls of an abandoned buildings or an establishment. Remember not to vandalize any walls of any private and government places. You will get fined once you do. Try to search some places or communities near your area where they allow you to create graffiti.  Keep it a rule to bear in mind to ask permission first before doing so.

The art of graffiti does not necessarily imply that you can only create urban and funky designs through walls. Graffiti is created and found almost everywhere – on skateboards, notebooks, cars, stationary, caps, billboards and shirts. You don't have to be a great artist in creating graffiti. You know I saw a cartoon not to long ago, it was a young graffiti artist standing beside an executive dressed in a suit ‘n hat ... both with spray cans in hand. Only the executive used capital letters and punctuation marks on his tags and he looks at the kid and says..."You bet! Correct Spelling and Punctuation- that's the way I roll."

It's funny how true to form this cartoon really is. The advertisers of 21st century have taken a lesson out of the urban graffiti artist's rule book and pulled down the cluttered unsightly and more often than not... ignored... billboards; opting for a more interactive and in your face style of medium. Down in the streets, right where the high volume traffic is. Using a medium guaranteed to grab and holding onto your attention. Ok, that is until the next best thing hits the scene. But for now, this is the next best thing!

It is however relatively new so accurate data and metrics are yet to be formatted and translated into some viable white paper as of yet. I don't see this becoming a flash in the pan "come one day and go the next" fad. No this medium is here to stay and my guess is there will be a push to grab a hold of the attention of the public "out and about" in day to day (daylight) rush hours as well, because at the moment projection marketing is restricted to indoors and dusk /dark settings for optimum view ability. Stretching the time-line availability for the medium will provide for a bigger reach and the end result a bigger bang for the advertising dollar. Just like the advent of any new idea or technology, once the kinks are worked out, cost effectiveness kicks in which in the long run making the medium more viable for mainstream marketers to utilize. For all you nay sayers that say projection technology is for dusk/dark nighttime traffic only, limiting it's uses ... look down at your iPad and tell me that again... I dare you!

 

Projection Advertising is well suited with the culture we live in now... where we anticipate to be "wowed" at every turn to even get our heads to turn. Movement is key in this culture. Moving Ads in the form of animations, laid the pavement towards adoption of video marketing and now eye candy of a medium. It just keeps getting bigger and better...can't say I'm not liking it though, I am after all a part of this "entertain me culture." (To catch a visual of how fascinating and effective projection advertising can be type in projection advertising - outdoor projection, video mapping into your web browser and buckle up for some pretty fascinating stunts.)

 

Video mapping has taken the still life out of advertising and replaced it with interactive "wow," just about anywhere: on tables, buildings, floors, sidewalks, walls, windows and water even. One is only limited by the creative team it has hired and this is such a fun medium, I bet the juices and enthusiasm is at peak for each project. This form of advertising can be set up for short viewings like special events, outdoor stunts, as well as permanent installations. In many instances permits are not even required if the building being projected on is not owned by the vendor, but out of sheer politeness perhaps a heads up for the building's owners would be appropriate. Just a thought!

Video projections are opening up doors for creative career potential as well. I am excited about where projection advertising is taking us. That high rise which has become mundane has now the possibilities to transform it's face into a moving, entertaining billboard. Yet unlike stationary billboards which change their face here and there, this high rise can host a multiple of attractive and interactive messages before the viewer can ever get bored with the message. 1 What was the context of the study? What motivated the researchers to conduct the study?

This study talks about the spread of HIV AIDS to African American women mostly in the rural areas of the United States of America.  More African American women as compared to White and Hispanic women are disproportionately identified with this disease. Most of the people who are infected with HIV AIDS are those that reside in urban and suburban areas as well as the surrounding communities. In the current situation, this disease is increasingly diffusing into the rural areas and has become an issue of concern. Young African American rural women are increasingly infected with HIV AIDS as they are less prepared to meet the prevention and treatment measures of this disease (Crosby, 2002).

2 What were the study objectives?

The main objective of the study was to compare HIV related sexual health history, sexual conducts of low income rural and urban African American women, and risk attitudes. Low income population is at greater risk of contracting HIV AIDS and hence the researcher chose to study them (Crosby, 2002).

3         What was the primary exposure of interest?  Was it accurately measured?

The primary exposure of interest was to collect data a statewide survey of women who attend federally financed Special Supplemental Nutrition Program that is planned for children, infants, and women in Missouri. About 90% of the Missouri counties are rural and hence rural women were studied in this area. There were twenty three counties that were selected with 29 women, infants, and children clinics. This method would reach many women in the area as many of them visit these clinics. The stratified random sampling method used helped in controlling the selection of urban and rural counties. The statewide survey was aimed at collecting information on why low income women do not use condoms in prevention of HIV infection (Crosby, 2002).

4        What was the primary outcome of interest?  Was it accurately measured?

The participation rate of the WIC was very high (93%) showing that there was accurate measurement. The study protocol was approved by the relevant authorities. Approximately 90% of the women requested to take part in the study agreed indicating that the study provided accurate information. About 58% of the women who were given questionnaires returned them by mail.  The findings indicated that the level of acceptability of the study by women was relatively high (Crosby, 2002).

5        What type of study was conducted?

Survey method was used in the study where data was collected through questionnaires and interview.

6        Describe the source of the study population, process of subject selection, and sample size.

Data was collected from WIC clinics which are located in the 23 counties of Missouri. 17 out of 23 counties of this area were rural, 4 were suburban, and 2 were urban. Out of the 29 clinics, 27 were eligible to participate in the study. The study was conducted for a period of two months since every two months women who received WIC benefits went to pick their vouchers hence all women had a chance to be studied. About 4117 of women agreed to participate in the study which was a good population size (Crosby, 2002).

7        Could there have been bias in the selection of the study subjects?

There could have been a bias in selecting study subjects since a woman may be residing in the urban area but visit the rural clinic to get the WIC benefits.

8 Could there have been bias in the collection of information?  How likely was this bias?

In the process of data collection, some of the questions such as HIV status were very sensitive and hence one could give false information (Crosby, 2002).

9 What provisions were made to minimize the influence of confounding factors prior to the analysis of the data?

In order to avoid confusing information, demographic variables were studied and tested before conducting data analysis. Pregnancy status and regularity of sexual intercourse were assessed in order to avoid confusion on regularity of condom use (Crosby, 2002).

B: Analysis of the data

1 What measures of association were reported in this study?

In this study, measures of risk perception, sexual risk conducts, and health history were reported. These measures were significantly tested in the presence of observed covariates. For each result measure attaining bivariate significance, a detached logistic regression scrutiny was conducted. 95% confidence intervals and adjusted odds ratios were the results of this process (Crosby, 2002).

C: Interpretation of data

  1. What were the major results of this study?

The major results of the study are; more urban than rural women have ever been tested with HIV, a higher per cent of rural women indicated that their partners have not being tested with HIV, and HIV prevention measures are used more in urban than in rural areas. More people in urban areas use condoms as compared to those in rural areas. There is much counseling on HIV in urban areas than in rural areas (Crosby, 2002).

  1. What were the study's strengths?

One of the strengths of this study is the use of controlled analysis in supporting study hypothesis. All women in WIC had an equal chance of being studied hence reducing cases of biases. A large population size (2391) was used in order to get accurate data. The data collected answered the hypothesis adequately. The results of this study can be used in giving directions in other rural states in USA (Crosby, 2002).

There has always been something fascinating about the allure of Brazilian culture that has caused people from around the world to want to latch on to its magic. From Carnival to Bossa Nova to Victoria’s Secret models—the world wants what Brazil has. When it comes to urban art (commonly referred to as “street” art), Brazil is home to some of the most innovative and inspiring artists to date. The definition of street art, known by some as Graffiti, is “a Form of visual communication involving the unauthorized marking of public space by an individual or group.”

It is true that in cities around the world, many artists have risked delinquency for years in order to display their works. In Brazil, however, authorities stay hushed in light of the cultural value that can be seen in these artistic displays. After having gained recognition in the streets, these artists are quickly translating their works into collectable pieces such as paintings, prints, photos, fashion and more. This new generation of talent has garnered a legion of faithful and surprisingly young followers, and in turn is becoming a focus point in the ever-expanding Latin American art scene.

When Brazilian fashion marketing wiz Baixo Ribeiro took notice of his young son’s collection of local urban artwork, he thought: there is more to this than graffiti. Having spent years incorporating local street artists into his network of fashion moguls, Mr. Ribeiro took the next logical step and founded urban art gallery Choque Cultural. Since 2000 the gallery has featured the works of some of the city’s finest street artists and has gained international acclaim as being one of the most unique and inspiring galleries in São Paulo.

According to Mr. Ribeiro, there couldn’t be a better time to take notice of the street art movement. Specifically, he notes that Brazilian artists have an energy that is quite distinct from other common street art cultures. European and even Argentine street artists have a tendency to focus on design processes, directing much of their energies towards stenciling and similar techniques. Brazilian artists, while incorporating some of these practices, pride themselves in their individuality and apply more of a manual tradition to their street works. This sense of artistry is what makes these young “Paulistas” stand out in the world of urban art.

With big name brands such as Nike working alongside young Brazilian street artists to design campaigns and merchandise, it is only a matter of time before this urban uprising becomes a bona fide art form. Brazilian artist Titi Freak recently gained a Nike sportswear sponsorship, which has helped him to publish his first book, the 200-page Freak, which is available at Choque Cultural gallery. Furthermore, in June of 2009, Nike launched “Movimento Canarinho” – a 100% Brazilian campaign inspired by Brazilian street art and street soccer. The turn around will be seen from the sales of a limited-edition product line inspired by the Brazilian street culture. Now is the time for investors to think outside of the box by sponsoring a young talent, commissioning a mural, or even starting a product line featuring “street design.” When it comes to investment potential, we are really just beginning to see the turn around in this area. At first glance it would appear that young collectors of street art have little knowledge of their acquisitions. Their impulse to purchase is do to the fact that they identify with the work from an artistic or cultural standpoint. Mr. Ribeiro mentioned one such young collector who entered his gallery not long ago with a poster that he had purchased at $60 reales. That same work is now worth nearly three times the price and will surely continue to acquire value.


With Brazilian street art gaining global recognition, major galleries are beginning to take notice and feature exhibits. The Jonathan Levine Gallery in Manhattan recently featured the works of two popular artists from São Paulo, Titi Freak and Stephan Doitshinoff. All major brand names aside, there is an obvious social movement to this work, an up-leveling in consciousness, if you will. The aforementioned Stephan Doitschinoff, whose street alias is “Calma” is São Paulo born and after traveling abroad and returning to the rural Brazilian countryside of Bahia, felt inspired to “paint the city.” His aim was not to make money or gain fame; like most street artists, he was inspired by the idea of creating beauty in the midst of poverty and despair. He began by asking a couple townspeople if they wouldn’t mind him painting the sides of their homes with his unique and symbolic murals. Once the people of the town realized that all this man truly desired was space, they offered up their streets, homes, cemeteries and even chapels into the hands of this inspired visionary. The town’s Afro-Brazilian folklore began to intermingle with Mr. Doitschinoff’s metaphoric imagery, along with bursts of contemporary pop culture and pagan and alchemical symbolism. The work of this young artist is now featured in galleries around the world, and a book of his work has been published and sold internationally.

Glasgow Shopping, Top 10 Shops For Streetwear

You don't realise how good the shopping is in Glasgow till you spend a day trekking its streets, if, you have come from anywhere outside of London, you will love what Glasgow has to offer, more shops than anywhere and loads of good streetwear stores, well 3, but still good.

I have decided to list my top 11 shops, the ones I'd visit when out shopping, mention my competition i hear you say, yes, I do say, the more people who realise Glasgow is the No1 shopping destination the better.

1. TK Maxx on Sauchiehall St (top end) is where you'll find bargains if your lucky, if not you'll find nothing of interest, I got a great pair of Brown Leather Air Max for £25 18 months ago, only now starting to fall apart, but the comfiest shoes ever. Also got a great case for when I'm on my travels, snazzy 'lil thing for much cheapness.

2. Next on Bath street is the urban legend that is Fat Buddha, Vinyl Toys, Graffiti Supplies, Lifestyle and Clothing by brands like Carhartt, The Hundreds, Kikstyo, Recon, Penfield, Zoo York, Volcom, Nike, Dc's, Reebok. Voted best shop in Glasgow by an independent panel of my family, but worth the visit, just to see the shop dog Maisie.

3. Goodlife is across the road from Fat Buddha and is uber-expensive but it is Glasgow's only High end Streetwear Boutique after all, selling Original Fake & Alife, good mix of brands in such a small place, but the store has its following, coming from a far for its brand mix.

Not sure the exact story, but it looks like Goodlife has closed its doors.

4 On Buchanan st you'll find this corporate whore that is Urban Outfitters, in sale time there are great bargains to be had, real mix of brands in here, and some of the home-wares are not to be sniffed at, worth a visit.

If you are American or visited one of these stores in America you will be surprised how poor the British version is compared to the American, different brand mix, terrible staff and no atmosphere.

5. Further down Buchanan st you will find Hugo Boss, I love this store, for years now i still like to visit it, great layout and some good product, wonderful suits and boy do they fit like they should. Glasgow's first real designer name on Buchanan St, go visit.

I almost got the managers job in here many many moons ago, but it wasn't to be, lovely shop still.

6. Just round the corner you'll find Aspecto, this lads store, only place for Stussy, and good for Adidas, Carhartt, North Face & Camper, Y3, Evisu and the like. Great shopfit, looked great at the time, so worth a visit.

7. You want trainers, where else to go than Size on Union Street, big store with good range of apparel, the best store in Glasgow for footwear, unless the shoes are rare, then the staff get first shout on them. This is the place for footwear, the 2 Chris's always have a smile for you.

8. Always a sucker for Department stores, and House of Frasers always hits the spot, the cookware dept rocks, Menswear has now relocated to the first floor and a ton of money was spent on it, now it is the BEST mens clothing area in Glasgow by a mile, the Paul Smith section is lovely and again the Paul Smith section is lovely, great wallets and saving up for the scarf just now. Frasers is worth an hour or so of your time, its just of Argyle St.

9. Footlocker, just at Argyle St is where your Jordan craving will be satisfied, good selection of nikes, esp Air Stabs, good range of clothing and a separate woman's floor make this a destination not to be missed. Footlocker is always a must visit place for sneakerheads.

10. Focus are on Argyle St and Glasgows sole Nike SB stockist, other brands include Diamond, Supra, Krew, Cliche. Skateboards are Focus's forte and they serve the Glasgow market well, they have a good reputation now and visit it just for an Obey t/shirt. Good staff and a friendly ambiene make this a worthy addition to my list.

11. Lastly you'll walk round the corner from Focus and find Cruise on Ingram St, a legend in Glasgow and still doing what it does best, feeding brands to the masses, CP Company, Stone Island, Y3, BBC make a visit essential. Lovely Shopfit as well, grab a Paul Smith wallet while your there.

So that wraps up Glasgow for shopping, the best 11 shops, there are hundreds more not on the list, you have St Enoch Shopping Ctr, Buchanan Galleries Shopping Ctr in town, stretch further afield and you'll hit Braehead Shopping Ctr and Silverburn Shopping Ctr.

The more you leave Glasgow, the more you appreciate it, so come eat, shop and be merry.

Studies conducted on this area have indicated that, many people in the United States of America use approximately 30% of their total incomes in paying house rent. Additionally, around one in every ten households lives in inadequate units.

The smart growth promises to revitalize declining urban areas, create more sustainable and diverse neighborhoods, and prevent explosive suburban development. It should be noted that these promises can bring about displacement of low income residents and neighborhood gentrification. One can therefore ask a question, where the low income earners will live tomorrow? Portland is a city in the United States of America that is heavily facing the crisis of shortages of affordable housing as a result increasing housing prices and declining economy. In order to solve the affordable housing crisis in Portland, everyone's support is required right from the state, local, and federal government officials to community based organizations, developers, and smart growth advocates. Smart growth and regional development have been considered by many communities in the pursuit of defining the challenges of 20th century and addressing them. Portland has become the focal focus of such policies and strategies where a lot of emphasis is based on the enforcement of an Urban Growth Boundary (UGB). Planners and politicians in the United States of America are looking to the concepts of growth management in order to control sprawl and organize space as a way of increasing recognition of the consequences and effects that consumptive land use have on the quality of economic, physical, and social environment. Portland has experienced high rocketing rents as a result of increased population in this area and hence many people are not able to pay their house rents.
